Khine Paces Seahawks In Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, South Carolina – Led by Phu Khine's two-under-par 69 score, the UNCW women's golf team opened play at the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sunday at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club.

The Seahawks, who posted a 286-team score, sit in fourth place through the first round of the three-day tournament. Austin Peay State, Campbell and Lipscomb are locked into a three-way tie for first with 279-team scores.

Khine is tied for fifth place with New Mexico State's Alison Gastelum and Campbell's Taylah Ellems. Austin Peay State's Erica Scutt and USC Upstate's Praew Nontarux lead the player leaderboard at -7 (64).

"It was a solid first round as a team and Phu played extremely well," said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. "Everyone played consistently. We had lots of scoring opportunities and our birdie chances just lipped out all day."

UNCW's Mallory Fobes and Victoria Levy each shot one-over-par 72 to finish the first round with a share of 21st place.

The Seahawks recorded 10 birdies and paced the field with 64 rounds of par or better.

The Golfweek Fall Challenge continues with the second round on Monday, Sept. 12, at 7:50 a.m.
