Volleyhawks Douse Flames In Five

ORLANDO, Fla. – Led by double-doubles from Annabelle Schall and Katie Lanz, UNCW knocked off reigning Horizon League champion UIC in five sets on Saturday at the UCF Invitational at the UCF Venue.

The Seahawks pushed their record to 2-6 with the win while the Flames dropped to 6-2. It was UNCW's second win in five sets this season.

UIC, which is now a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, built a 2-1 lead after a 25-18 win in the third set. The Seahawks, however, rebounded with their best volleyball of the season, committing just four hitting errors in the fourth and fifth sets combined. UNCW hit .373 over the final two sets to earn the win.

Schall finished with season-highs of 37 assists and 14 digs. She added three kills, three aces and posted three total blocks.

Lanz, meanwhile, led the Seahawks with 17 kills and chipped in 12 digs.

At the net, Brooke Hanshumaker had eight kills and a season-high seven blocks.

Grave Melnick continued her solid play with a career-high 12 kills and a .370 hitting average.

Joining Lanz and Schall in double-digit digs were Quinn Manley (13) and Sydney Thaxton recorded a career-best 12.

UIC's Martina Delucchi held match-high honors with 18 kills while Paola Santiago added 16. Both rounded out double-doubles with 17 and 12 digs, respectively.

The Flames hit .259 on the afternoon but committed 12 service errors and were aced seven times.
