Seahawks Open Exhibition Season With Buckeyes

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's soccer team opened its exhibition season with a 4-1 setback against Ohio State in a Thursday mid-day contest at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The teams played to an even 1-1 draw in the first of three 30-minute periods, but the Buckeyes scored three unanswered goals, including two by midfielder Kine Flotre, to edge the Seahawks in the final two frames.

Ohio State's Brooke Otto connected on an unassisted goal in the 13th minute to give the Buckeyes an early lead. Trailing 1-0, UNCW's Morgan Nanni drilled the ball into a crowded box that Seahawk freshman Taylor O'Brien booted in to even the score.

Flotre put the Buckeyes ahead for good in the 39th minute. Junior midfielder Peyton McNamara added an insurance goal with 11:34 to go in the second period before Flotre capped her day with a close-range strike in the 88th minute.

The Seahawks conclude the two-game preseason at Clemson on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.
