Baseball Preview: At NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – UNCW and NC State open their annual home-and-home series Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start at Doak Field and Dail Park.

The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra and carried on the radio in Wilmington on ESPN Wilmington, 101.7 FM and AM 630.

Sophomore Carter Holjes will make his first start of the season for the Seahawks. The righthander has appeared in seven games this season and owns a 2-0 mark and a 4.30 earned run average. NC State has not announced a starter for the non-conference tilt.

The Seahawks have gotten off to a fast start this month with a 5-1 mark and series wins against VMI and CAA foe Hofstra. UNCW returns to Colonial Athletic Association play this weekend when it hosts Towson for three games beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

The NC State series holds a special place in UNCW's baseball history. The Wolfpack were the first ACC school to schedule the Seahawks, who jumped to the NAIA ranks in 1964 following a strong run as a junior college. NC State won that first game, 3-1, on Mar. 8, 1971, on now what is Brooks Field. The Seahawks won their first game in the series during the 1975 season.
