Phelan Earns CAA Honors For Second Time

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshman Cyle Phelan was named Co-Rookie of the Week by the Colonial Athletic Association for the second time this season following another stellar start over the weekend against conference co-leader Hofstra.

Phelan helped the Seahawks clinch their first CAA series of the season with seven innings of two-hit, shutout baseball on Saturday. He walked three and struck out five while carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning. He retired the first 13 batters he faced before issuing a walk. He allowed just two base runners to get into scoring position on the afternoon.

On the season, Phelan has fashioned a 1.95 earned run average and leads the conference with an opponent's batting average of .150. In 32.1 innings, he's struck out 34 batters, 9.46 per nine innings, and allowed just four extra base hits, all being doubles.

Phelan, who also earned rookie honors on Mar. 14, extends a run of Seahawks to earn CAA weekly honors to five consecutive weeks.

The Seahawks visit NC State on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start in Raleigh before returning to Brooks Field this weekend for three games against Towson beginning on Friday.
