Lines Collects CAA's First Honor Of Season

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Courtney Lines of the UNCW women's track and field team has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's first Women's Field Athlete of the Week of the season.

The Leland, N.C., product posted a fourth place finish in the Heptathlon at the Bill Webb Combined Events/Bob Davidson Memorial last weekend at High Point's Vert Stadium.

She totaled 4,504 points to finish behind Lipscomb's Anna Richardson (4,752), Aislinn McElhaney (4,650) and Bella Jackson (4,510) in the standings. Lines won the 200 Meters (25.13) and Long Jump (20-3.50) portions of the competition.

The North Brunswick High School graduate set a UNCW outdoor school record and a stadium record in the Long Jump. She also set a personal best in the javelin and moved into third all-time in the Heptathlon in the Seahawk record books. Her effort in the Long Jump has her sitting at No. 3 in the NCAA East rankings.

"Courtney has taken ownership to be a lead by example type to get the job done," said Jeff Klaves, UNCW's third year head coach. "This award represents others noticing the work she's been doing behind the scenes to hit the type of marks she's putting up.

"This is her new baseline and daily expectation. I'm proud of her for earning this and look forward to her building on this moment. 'Be The One' has been our mission statement all year and she's on track to be 'one' that proves it is possible to achieve when you put in the work."

Assistant coach Max Coleman, who works with Lines in the jump events, echoed Klaves' sentiments.

"Courtney is a special young woman and we're so excited about what she is doing on the track and field side. She has battled back from an injury one year ago and was light years away from where she is right now. The road has not been easy. That makes accomplishments like this sweeter. It has been an honor and a blessing to watch her work every day at her craft."
