Women's Basketball Continues Road Trip at Drexel

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The third leg of a four-game Colonial Athletic Association road trip brings the UNCW women's basketball team into battle against conference leader Drexel on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

Friday's game at the Daskalakis Athletic Center will be aired on FloHoops.com. Live stats will be available online at UNCWStats.com.

The Seahawks, amidst a seven-game losing skid, spot a 3-14 record and are 0-7 in CAA play. The league-leading Dragons boast a 16-2 record and have gotten out to an 8-0 mark in conference play.

UNCW is shooting 36.4 percent from the field this season, including 31.7 percent from three-point range. Drexel, meanwhile, is hitting 42.8 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Sierra DaCosta paces the Seahawks at 13.3 ppg. DaCosta, a Philadelphia, Pa. product, saw her double-figures scoring streak snapped at six games in Tuesday's 56-40 loss at Hofstra.

Drexel senior guard Keishana Washington, the CAA's second-leading scorer, marches into the contest averaging 18.8 ppg on 42.6 percent shooting. Graduate forward Tessa Brugler, meanwhile, carries averages of 13.5 ppg and 9.1 rpg, the fourth-best mark in the conference.

Drexel, winners of 13 straight games, return home after escaping William & Mary with a 75-67 double overtime victory last Sunday.

UNCW and Drexel last met on Jan. 9, 2022, with the Dragons spoiling the Seahawks' upset bid, 71-68, in overtime in Wilmington.

Following Friday's game, the Seahawks will conclude their road trip at Delaware on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

FIVE FACTS TO KNOW

SERIES UPDATE | Drexel leads the all-time series at 30-8. The Seahawks last conquered the Dragons on March 11, 2011, a 63-51 victory in the CAA Tournament.

SEE YOU AT THE CHARITY STRIPE | Drexel (76.2 percent) and UNCW (75.1) are the CAA's top two teams in free throw percentage this season.

DEFENSIVE DRAGONS | The Seahawks face an uphill battle against the Dragon's defense, which is limiting opponents to a conference-low 55.7 ppg. The Seahawks have the third-highest three-point percentage (31.7 percent) in the conference, but the Dragons have forced opponents to shoot a league-low 24.9 percent from range.

MAKING HISTORY | DaCosta's 18 points in the fourth quarter on Jan. 9 against Drexel marked the most by a UNCW player in a single period since the NCAA adopted the four-quarter format for the 2015-16 season. The previous mark was 15 points by Madison Raque in the fourth quarter against Hofstra on Feb. 4, 2018.

KNOW THE COACH | Drexel Coach Amy Mallon is in her second season as the Dragons' bench boss and has been a member of the Drexel staff since 2004. The Dragons have posted seven 20-win seasons during Mallon's time in Philadelphia.
