Seahawk Men Extend Lead, Women Make Move Towards Top

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – The UNCW men extended their lead and the Seahawk women moved to within four points of the lead following another impressive session of event championships and school records at the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday.

On the men's side, the Seahawks won three events and lead Drexel by 108 points. The women, meanwhile, picked up event wins in the 500 Free and 3-meter board to cut into William & Mary's lead.

Brooke Knisely, a sophomore, opened the finals session with a school-record and NCAA B cut time of 4:44.66 to win the 500 Free. She became the Seahawk to win the event since 1995.

Freshman Sam O'Brien gave UNCW a sweep of the event when he clocked in with a school-record time of 4:23.83.

Senior Henderson Louviere, who won the 200 IM last season, added a gold medal in the event to his 2022 championship resume, which also includes golds in the 200 Medley and 800 Free Relays. He broke his own school record in the event when he touched the wall in a time of 1:46.24, which is also an NCAA B cut time.

UNCW diving captured its second event in as many tries when junior Courtney Klausen scored a season-best 302.10 points to win the gold in the 3-meter dive. Klausen has won the 1-meter twice during her career, but this was her first title on the 3-meter.

The Seahawk men closed out the session with a bang, winning the 400 Medley Relay in a school-record time of 3:11.17. On the winning relay were Will Barker, Gianmichel D'Alessandro, Louviere and Kenneth Lowe. UNCW last won the event in 2013.

Day three of the meet begins at 10 a.m. on Friday with the preliminaries for the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast and Back strokes, men's 3-meter board and the finals of the 200 Free Relay. The finals will begin at 6 p.m.
