Three Golds and Four Program Records For UNCW

The Seahawk men hold an early lead and the women are second at the CAA Championships

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Three gold medals and a pair of school records powered the UNCW men's swimming and diving team to the early lead at the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday.

The men lead Drexel by 24 points in the men's meet while the women's team is in second, just 12 points behind William & Mary.

The men's 200 Medley Relay of Will Barker, Gianmichel D'Alessandro, Henderson Louviere and E'Likai Crompton-English touched the wall in a time of 1:26.43, eclipsing the previous record of 1:26.65 set just last year.

UNCW closed out the opening session with another school-record performance in the 800 Free Relay. Henderson Louviere, Jacob Duracinsky, Sam O'Brien and Kenneth Lowe combined for a program-record time of 6:31.60 and also gave the Seahawks their first championship in the event.

Nick Newis, who joined the program for the spring semester, score 308.20 points. That total moved him into eighth on UNCW's all-time list. Freshman teammate Ethan Graff finished second with 280.95 points.

UNCW women's team posted a pair of silver medal finishes in the relays with both times setting program records. The 200 Medley Relay (1:40.62) of Victoria Cunningham, Sarah Olson, Reece Alexander and Brooke Morgan was edged by William & Mary for the gold.

In the 800 Free Relay, the team of Brooke Knisley, Tink Niebel, Sarah Rogillio and Graice Steelhammer fashioned a school-record time of 7:20.41.

The meet resumes on Wednesday with the preliminaries for the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 400 Medley Relay and the women's 3-meter board. The event finals will be a 6 p.m.
