UNCW Sets CAA 400 Free Relay Record

COLUMBIA, S.C. – In its final swim of the fall semester schedule, the UNCW women's 400 Freestyle Relay set a program and Colonial Athletic Association record with a time of 3:20.37 on Friday at the Gamecock Invitational.

The Seahawks finished second in both meets behind host South Carolina. The UNCW women finished ahead of Vanderbilt, who was third, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, North Florida and Gardner-Webb. The men, meanwhile, finished second comfortably ahead of Gardner-Webb.

Teaming up on the record-setting relay were Maura Schoppa, Sarah Olson, Emily Waite and Tink Niebel. The previous conference record of 3:20.45 was set by James Madison at the 2015 CAA Championships. The previous school record of 3:20.81 was set in 2012 at the CAA Championships.

Olson added a third-place finish in the 100 Free with a personal-best time of 50.05 seconds.

Jacob Duracinsky, who set a school record in the 200 Free on Thursday, won the 100 Free on Friday with a personal-best time of 44.42. He also swam the opening leg of UNCW's second-place entry in the 400 Free Relay.

Also swimming a personal best was Sam O'Brien in the 200 Back with a time of 1:45.03 to finish third.

Aidan Duffy took second in the 200 Breaststroke after touching the wall in a time of 2:01.77.

In the 200 Fly, UNCW earned second and third-place points as Henderson Louviere (1:48.71) and David Fitch (1:48.81) finished in those spots, respectively.

The men's 400 Free Relay of Duracinsky, E'Likai Crompton-English, Louviere and Kenneth Lowe wrapped up the meet with a second-place finish (2:58.37).

In Diving, the Seahawks are competing this weekend at the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Va. On Friday, Courtney Klausen won the 3-meter board with a season-high 286.20 points. On the men's 1-meter, Ethan Badrian crusied to a win with 314 points.
