UNCW Volleyball Closes With Weekend Sweep

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Led by freshman Sarah Thompson's four aces, UNCW tied a season-high with 10 aces in a 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 25-16) win over visiting Hampton in the season finale for both teams on Sunday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks, who carry a two-match winning streak into the 2023 season, finished the season with a 6-19 overall record and 4-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Pirates, meanwhile, ended the season at 3-16 and 0-16 in the league.

Offensively the Seahawks were led by senior Katie Lanz with 13 kills while red-shirt sophomore Caitlyn Callahan had seven kills on 14 attacks and did not commit and error. Callahan added a match-high six blocks.

Junior Annabelle Schall paced the Seahawks in assists with 26 and digs with 10 for a double-double.

Schall and Ashley Thompson, a senior, added three aces apiece.

Gabby Calloway held match-high honors for the Pirates with 14 kills while Clara Smith added seven.

Rickelle Wescott had five blocks, including three solo, as Hampton finished with an 8-7 advantage at the net.
