UNCW Sweeps CAA Swimming & Diving Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW made it a clean sweep of the weekly swimmer and diver of the week awards the Colonial Athletic Association announced on Tuesday. Aidan Duffy, a sophomore, and freshman Maura Schoppa were the swimmers of the week while freshman Ethan Badrian and Courtney Klausen earned diving honors.

Duffy helped the Seahawk men to a convincing win over CAA rival William & Mary by winning three events, including the 100 (57.14) and 200 (2:04.83) Breaststrokes and the 200 IM (1:53.07). He also swam on the second-place 200 Medley Relay. He opened the season with second-place finishes in the breaststrokes and was third in the 200 IM against Army.

Schoppa made an immediate impact in her career at UNCW, winning four events and finishing second twice in UNCW's first three meets. Against Army, she won both the 100 (50.52) and 200 (1:49.69) Freestyles and later won the 100 Butterfly (56.39) and took second in the 50 (23.96) Freestyle against Tennessee. Schoppa won the 100 Free again in UNCW's win over reigning conference champion, William & Mary.

Badrian is another newcomer for the Seahawks who has made an impact early. Badrian won the 1-meter board against Army and was second on the 3-meter. Against William & Mary, he posted a season-high 283.05 points on the 1-meter and had 306.30 points on the 3-meter.

Klausen, the reigning CAA Diver of the Year, scored a season-high 283.0 points and finished third against Tennessee on the 3-meter board. She delivered a first-place finish in the 1-meter against William & Mary and was third on the 3-meter.

The Seahawks return to the pool this weekend when they host Georgia Tech and Campbell on Oct. at 11 a.m.
