UNCW Fourth At Williams Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW men's golf sits in a tie for fourth place after one round at the Williams Cup following strong performances by freshman Gray Mitchum and junior Walker Isley on Friday at the Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.

Host North Carolina, which is ranked ninth nationally, holds a six-stroke lead over Louisville following one round of play. NC State is third and Michigan State is tied with the Seahawks, who recorded 16 birdies in the opening round and played par fives holes at four under, for fourth.

Michigan State's Drew Hacket and Jordan Gilkison of Kent State are tied for the lead at two under.

Mitchum struggled on his opening nine, finishing at four-over, but he rallied on the back nine of his round, carding four birdies in his last six holes to move into a tie for 11th at one-over. Mitchum finished the round with a tournament-high five birdies.

Isley, meanwhile, finished his opening round at one over and enters the second round on Saturday tied for 11th.

Patrick Sparks rounds out the Seahawks in the top 20, closing out his opening 18 holes at two-over and tied for 16th.

The second round of the tournament tees off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Seahawks will be paired with Michigan State and Kent State.
