Rico, Men's Golf in First Following Opening Round

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, South Carolina – The UNCW men's golf team opened the 2026 Coastal Athletic Association Championships in first place, one stroke ahead of Campbell, following Sunday's First Round at the Dataw Island Club.

The Seahawks posted a 12-under 276 team score, highlighted by individual leader James Rico's six-under-par 66. Rico, who fired off a team-high six birdies in opening round, is joined in the top 10 by UNCW's Gray Mitchum's three-under-69 score.

Four Seahawks sit in the top 20 entering Monday's second round, including John Logan (T-15th place) and Ethan Boyette (T-20th), who fashioned a pair of Eagles on hole Nos. 7 and 13.

Rounding out the top three is Towson, who stands two strokes behind UNCW.
