Volleyball Knocked Off In Four By Pride

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Yagmur Cinel's match-high 15 kills led Colonial Athletic Association leader Hofstra to a four-set win (25-21, 2522, 23-25, 25-19) over UNCW on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

With the road win, the Pride (12-8, 9-0 CAA) moved into sole possession of first place in the conference, following a Towson loss to Elon earlier in the day. The Seahawks fell to 3-13 and 1-6 in the league.

UNCW had a balanced offense with Kirsten Badowski, Brooke Hanshumaker and Katie Lanz finishing with a team-high eight kills apiece. Grace Melnick and Caitlyn Callahan added seven and six kills, respectively.

On her final kill of the afternoon, Lanz moved into a tie for 20th all-time at UNCW with 731 kills.

Joining Cinel in double-figure kills were Zyare Abdul-Rahim with 14 and Izadora Stedile chipped in 12.

The Pride finished hitting .229 for the match while the Seahawks were at .149.

Defensively, Chiara Cucco held match-high honors with 22 digs for the Pride while Quinn Manley recorded a UNCW team-high 20.

Sarah Pierre had four total blocks for Hofstra while Callahan and Hanshumaker had three each for UNCW.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start at Hanover Hall.
