Tennessee Sweeps Swimming and Diving

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW senior Tink Niebel won a pair of events to lead the Seahawks in a dual meet loss to visiting Tennessee at the David B. Allen Natatorium on Saturday.

The Seahawks dropped to 1-1 on the women's side while the men fell to 0-2 on the young season. The Volunteers, who were opening their season, posted a 190-105 win in the women's meet and earned a 21-78 decision in the men's.

Niebel fashioned UNCW's first event win of the day by winning the 100 Free with a time of 52.08 seconds. She later added a win in the 200 M.

Seahawk freshman Maura Schoppa delivered a win in the 100 Fly, touching the wall in a time of 56.39.

Jacob Duracinsky, a sophomore, captured the men's lone individual event win on the day when he finished first in the 200 IM.

UNCW closed out the meet by sweeping the 200 Free Relays.

Senior Courtney Klausen had UNCW's top finish in diving when she placed third on the 3-meter board.

Tennessee won 27 events, including the first 15 of the meet.

The Seahawks have a short turnaround when they return to the pool for a 10 a.m. start on Sunday against Colonial Athletic Association rival William & Mary.
