Five Facts to Know: Drexel

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After opening Colonial Athletic Association play earlier this week, the UNCW women's basketball team looks to secure its first league win of the season on Sunday, Jan. 9, with a 1 p.m. contest against Drexel at Trask Coliseum.

Sunday's game, the Seahawks' first at home since Dec. 19, may be seen online via FloHoops (subscription required) with John Smist and Tom Lamont calling the action, while Marianna Pinto provides reports from the sideline. In addition, an audio simulcast of the broadcast can be heard in the Wilmington area on 95.9 The Breeze.

Live stats for Sunday's contest will also be available by logging onto UNCWStats.com.

UNCW, 3-8 overall and 0-1 in the CAA, dropped its league opener on Wednesday afternoon with a 77-67 setback at Northeastern. Redshirt senior forward Micah Hoggatt led UNCW by posting her first career double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, setting a career high in both categories. However, the Seahawks were unable to overcome a pair of career-high performances by Northeastern seniors Kendall Currence and Katie May.

Graduate student guard Sierra DaCosta leads the Seahawks offensively with a 12.6 average after netting a season-high 18 points at Northeastern. Senior guard Carrie Gross follows with a 10.3 scoring clip and paces the CAA with a .929 free throw percentage.

Drexel, the defending CAA champion, carries a 9-2 overall record into Sunday's matinee after beginning league play with a 61-60 triumph at the College of Charleston on Friday night. The Dragons, playing their first game since Dec. 14 against Yale, used a lay-up by senior forward Mariah Leonard with 3.8 seconds left to outlast the Cougars.

Senior guard Keishana Washington, who tallied a season-high 33 points at Charleston, enters Sunday's play as the CAA's second-leading scorer with a 17.6 average and has posted four consecutive games with 20 or more points. Graduate student forward Tessa Brugler stands second in the circuit by grabbing 9.6 rebounds per game while chipping in 13.2 points per outing.
