Swimming & Diving Preview: Army West Point

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks return to the pool on Friday when they open the season hosting Army West Point at 2 p.m. The meet will be streamed on FloSports and attendance is free. Masks are required inside the building.

The Army West Point meet is the firs of two home meets to open the season as Tennessee returns to the Seahawk Natatorium on Oct. 2. UNCW will compete in nine home meets combined between the men's and women's programs.

The Seahawks welcome 23 newcomers to the program this season and will look to blend with a talented returning core of Seahawks.

Courtney Klausen returns for her junior season as the reigning Colonial Athletic Association's Diver of the Year and Diver of the Championships. She owns the program record in the 1-meter board (298.5) as well as the UNCW freshman records in both the 1- and 3-meter dives.

Kolbein Bjugan, like Klausen, was the conference Diver of the Year and the Championship meet. He won both boards and owns the second-best mark all-time at UNCW in the 1-meter. As a freshman, he qualified for the Zone B Championships and was the CAA Diver and Rookie Diver of the year.

Gianmichael D'Alessandro turned in a performance for the ages at last year's CAA Championships, earning five medals and helping the Seahawks to a second-place finish. He earned three medals on relays, including a golf in the 200 Medley. In the Breaststrokes, he finished third in both the 1100 and 200 events with school-record times.

Henderson Louviere, as a sophomore last season, was the CAA Champion in both the 200 and 400 IM while also setting program records in both events. He teamed with D'Alessandro on the gold medal winning 200 Medley Relay.

Sarah Olson was a valuable member of two relays, helping the Seahawks to bronze medals in the 200 Free and 200 Medley Relays at the CAA Championships. She also competed in the championship finals of the 100 Breaststroke and 50 Freestyle.

Mary Grace Copeland also swam on a pair of bronze medal relays, competing on both the 200 and 400 Medley relays. Copeland swam in the championship finals of both backstrokes.
