UNCW Rebounds In Second Round Of Opener

DURHAM, N.C. – UNCW rebounded by shaving 12 strokes off its first-round score on Saturday at the Rod Myers Invitational to closeout their first two rounds in 11th place at the Duke University Golf Club.

North Carolina (274-277=551) recorded the lowest round in each of the first two rounds on Saturday to build an eight-stroke lead on fellow ACC rival NC State (280-279=559).

The Seahawks, meanwhile, enter the final round on Sunday one stroke behind East Carolina (292-299=591) for 10th.
Red-shirt freshman Sander Akeren fashioned an even-par 72 in the second round to jump into a tie for 31st overall to lead the Seahawks.

Red-shirt senior Austin Bonfiglio recorded UNCW's best round of the day, carding a one-under-par in the second round.

The Seahawks are paired with ECU and Loyola Maryland on Sunday and will tee off at 8 a.m. on the back nine.
