WALLACE, North Carolina – Sophomore
Mallory Fobes tied the UNCW single round record after carding a career-low 6-under-par 66 as the Seahawks began the River Landing Classic in second place following the first round at River Landing Golf Course on Monday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who are the defending champions of the event, authored a season-low 1-under-par 287 to complete play in second place behind East Carolina, which posted a 5-under-par 283.
Fobes, who matched the school mark set by
Carmen Perez-Narbon at the 2007 Lady Seahawk Invitational, registered an impressive eight birdies in the round, including five of the first six holes. The East Bend, N.C., product, who holds a one-stroke lead after the first round, finished just one shot shy of equaling the tournament single-round record set by ETSU's Hee Ying Loy in 2017.
Senior
Caroline Cahill posted an even-par 72 in the opening round, including four birdies, to close out the first day in a tie for 13th place. Junior
Phu Khine, who earned co-medalist honors at last year's event, shot a 2-over-par 74 and holds a piece of 25th place.
Up Next: The second round of the River Landing Classic will be completed on Tuesday morning after darkness forced the suspension of play. The final round will take place after the second round is finished.
