Five Facts to Know: Coastal Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After facing No. 3 Maryland in a road game on Thursday night, it's right back to work for the UNCW women's basketball team as the Seahawks welcome regional rival Coastal Carolina to Trask Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m.

Saturday's non-conference game, which will serve as the Seahawks' Pride Day, may be seen online via FloHoops (subscription required) with Elijah Mize and Tom Lamont calling the action. In addition, live stats will be available at UNCWStats.com.

The first 100 UNCW students to attend Saturday's game will receive a free UNCW Pride t-shirt courtesy of UNCW Athletics and the Mohin-Scholz LGBTQIA Resource Office.

UNCW aims to end a brief two-game losing skid when the Seahawks return home on Saturday. The Seahawks (1-2) have dropped back-to-back games against Duke and Maryland after opening the season with a home victory over Mount Olive last Wednesday.

Senior guard Carrie Gross looks to build off her best outing of the young season at Maryland. Playing just 23 miles from her hometown of Clinton, Md., Gross matched her career high with 17 points, including 15 after the intermission, to lead three Seahawks in double figures against the third-ranked Terrapins.

Graduate student guard Sierra DaCosta continues to pace the Seahawks offensively with a 15.7 scoring average after authoring three straight double-digit scoring performances to begin the season. Gross, meanwhile, has been the Seahawks' best shooter by making 65.2 percent of her field goal attempts.

Coastal Carolina carries a 3-0 record into Saturday's tilt against the Seahawks after dismantling Erskine, 74-24, on Tuesday night at the HTC Center. The Chanticleers have averaged 90.7 points per game in the three victories while shooting 53.3 percent from the field.

Senior forward Aja Blount leads the Chanticleers in scoring with a 22.0 point per game average and is making 66.7 percent of her field goal attempts, including a 17-for-24 effort at South Carolina State last Saturday.

Junior guard Blayre Shultz is contributing 10.3 points per outing, but was limited to just five points against Erskine on Tuesday night.
