Gish, Belaya Reach Finals At Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Graduate transfers Lauren Gish and Sasha Belaya combined to reach two finals as the UNCW women's tennis team completed second-day action in the Navy, Blue & Gold Invitational on Saturday at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Gish topped UConn's Aleksandra Karamyshev, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) in a thrilling match in the semifinals of Flight B singles. Gish, from Mooresville, N.C., joined the Seahawks this fall as a graduate transfer from Vanderbilt.

Gish and Belaya will face Maryland's Minorka Miranda and Marta Perez Mur in the championship match of Flight A Doubles.

The Seahawks are one of eight teams in the three-day event. In addition to UNCW and Navy, other teams participating include Connecticut, Maryland, George Washington, George Mason, Seton Hall and Towson.

Play wraps up on Sunday in the three-day event in Annapolis.
