ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophia Catino's run to the finals of the D Flight main draw highlighted UNCW's appearance this weekend at the Blue and Gold Invitational, hosted by the US Naval Academy.

"It was great to see Sophia make the finals of her flight as well as Simay and Lucia making the semifinals of the top doubles flight", said head coach Chris Bizot. "Most importantly I am proud of how the ladies competed and represented our program this weekend

Catino, a sophomore, posted straight-set wins over Parker Debnam (William & Mary) and Laziza Talipova (George Washington) in the quarterfinal and semifinals, respectively, before falling to Richmond's Lainey O'Neil, 6-0, 6-2, in the finals.

In doubles, Lucia Gomez and Simay Keles advanced to the semifinals of the Flight A Doubles draw, but came up short, 6-4, against William & Mary's duo of Rebeka Svabikova and Francesca Davis.

UNCW returns to the courts on Oct. 10-11, in Williamsburg, Va., for the Hall of Fame Invite hosted by William & Mary.
