Robbins, Sparks In Top-20 At Williams Cup

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Lansdon Robbins rode a fast start in the first round and Patrick Sparks finished strong in the second to lead UNCW on Monday in men's college golf action at the William Cup presented by Stitch at Eagle Point Golf Club.

Third-ranked North Carolina leads longtime rival NC State by four strokes entering the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Vanderbilt is eight strokes off the pace in third place and Georgia rounds out the top four at three-under-par.

The Seahawks, who will be paired with Indiana and Houston on Tuesday, are in ninth and trail IU by four strokes for eighth.

Georgia's Trent Phillips holds the medalist lead by two strokes over Maximilian Steinlechner of NC State.

Phillips set a course record for competitive play in the first round, carding an eight-under-par 64. That record, however, would be short lived as Steinlechner finished nine-under in the second round.

Jiri Zuska of Louisville and North Carolina's David Ford are tied for third at six-under.

Robbins opened his day with a two-under round and moved into a tie for second midway through the round. He finished the second round four over and dropped back to 20th overall.

Walker Isley carded a fall-best one-under-par 71 in the second round for the Seahawks.

Playing as an individual, Sparks is tied with Robbins for 20th. Sparks finished the second round one-under to move into the top 20.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday with 18 holes and the teams teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
