UNCW Newcomers Make Immediate Impact

Guntoro's first recruiting class among league's top times and scores in 11 events

WILMINGTON, N.C. – They were recruited because Bobby Guntoro and his coaching staff felt they had a chance to contribute immediately, and it's paid off for UNCW as newcomers have the top times or scores among Colonial Athletic Association competitors in 11 events.

Heading up the impressive showing by the freshmen class is Jacob Duracinsky, who owns the top times in the CAA in three events. The Holly Springs, N.C., product has produced top times in both the 100 (46.39) and 200 (1:40.72) Freestyles while also fashioning a conference-best 1:52.80 in the 200 IM.

In the mid-distance events, Silas Crosby (4:36.43 / 9:32.14) and Sam O'Brien (4:41.47 / 9:33.91) ranked first and second in the 500 and 1000 Free, respectively. Both also own top-three times in other events. Crosby is third in the 200 Breaststroke (2:07.56) and O'Brien is second in the 200 Backstroke (1:51.78).

The reigning CAA Swimmer of the Week Will Barker heads up the league in both Backstroke events. Barker has posted times of 49.69 in the 100 and in the 200, he touched the wall in a time of 1:50.68.

On the women's side, Reece Alexander, this week's CAA Swimmer of the Week, got out of the gates quickly this season with conference-leading marks of 55.66 in the 100 Butterfly and 2:04.63 in the 200. Her time in the 100 was a UNCW freshman record.

Remaining in the 200 Fly, joining Alexander in the top three are Karsen Pena and Molly Braun. Pena is second in the event at 2:05.29 and Braun third at 2:07.12.

Kate Knorr is second in the 200 Back after posting a time of 2:05.09 in her debut against Army.

In diving, Trinity McNall has given the Seahawks a solid 1-2 punch along with Courtney Klausen. McNall is second in both the 1-meter (256.95) and 3-meter (238.20).
