Preview: Hughes Bros. Challenge

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Despite weather challenges, UNCW hosts the annual Hughes Bros. Challenge this weekend beginning on Friday with Marshall and Bowling Green at 3 p.m.

The Seahawks will open their tournament appearance on Saturday at noon with the frontend of a doubleheader against Bowling Green. UNCW rounds out the Saturday schedule with a 4 p.m. start against Marshall.

UNCW enters the weekend coming off a tough 4-3 loss at Coastal Carolina on Wednesday in Conway. Ron Evans homered for the third time this season and for the second consecutive game and Noah Bridges added a pair of hits and stolen bases.

Red-shirt sophomore Brody Lawson gave the Seahawks four strong innings, striking out six and allowing one run.

Evans was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week after hitting .545 last weekend with two home runs and six runs batted in.

The Hughes Bros. Challenge concludes on Sunday with Marshall playing two games. The Herd takes on Bowling Green at 11 a.m. and the Seahawks at 3 p.m.
