Seahawks Wrap Up XC Season At Regionals

EARLYSVILLE, Virginia – The UNCW men's and women's cross country teams finished 31st and 32nd at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships early Friday on the rural grounds of Panorama Farms near Charlottesville.
 
In their sixth and final meet of the season, the Seahawks joined a field of 42 schools from four states on the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range. The runners were greeted by fair weather with temperatures hovering in the low 50's.
 
Junior Evan Jones, who earned All-CAA honors two weeks ago, concluded an outstanding season by coming in 111th out of 250 runners with a time of 32:26 on the 10k course. He led the Seahawks in every race this season.
 
Virginia won the men's competition with 79 points and Virginia Tech senior Peter Seufer captured the individual title in 29:20. William & Mary finished 12th in the men's field to head up the four CAA teams entered in the race.
 
Junior Summer Owens paced the Seahawk women with a time of 23:03 to finish in 166th place on the 6k course. The Richmond, Va., native led the Seahawks in all six races on the year.
 
N.C. State's women came in first place with 48 points. Wolfpack senior Elly Henes paced the field with a time of 19:48. Elon finished in ninth place to top the five Colonial Athletic Association schools competing in northern Virginia.
