WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team ties a bow on its first run through the Colonial Athletic Association gauntlet early Saturday with a late afternoon tip-off against Elon at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks (8-13, 4-4) and Phoenix (6-15, 2-6) complete their first rotation in the CAA in a 4 p.m. matchup. All 10 teams in the CAA are in action as the circuit wraps up the first half of the conference season.

UNCW is riding the crest of a 93-88 decision over William & Mary on Thursday. The Seahawks shot 50 percent for the sixth time this season and placed four men in double figures to beat the Tribe in the initial meeting of the year between the two teams.

Senior forward Devontae Cacok and freshman point guard Kai Toews each reached milestones in the high-scoring affair. The tireless Cacok pumped in 22 points and snared 16 rebounds for his NCAA-leading 15th double-double of the season and 50th of his storied career. He tied all-time great Brian Rowsom for the most career double-doubles in a Seahawk uniform.

Toews, meanwhile, continued his eye-popping season. The Tokyo phenom poured in a career-high 23 points and dished out seven assists, making 9-of-14 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. He distributed at least seven helpers for the 12th time this season.

Elon dropped its fifth game in six outings on Thursday following a 72-53 loss at Charleston. Senior forward Tyler Seibring, the team's leading scorer at 16.7 ppg, led the way at TD Arena with 16 points and five rebounds for the Phoenix, which shot just 39.6 percent on the night. The output represented a season-low total for Matt Matheny's squad.

Live Seahawk Digital Network (SDN) coverage of the UNCW-Elon contest starts at 3:45 p.m. with Mike Vaccaro, the "Voice of the Seahawks," and color analyst Marty Feurer on the call. Visit UNCWsports.com/SDN for live audio coverage.

THE STORYLINES

THE SERIES: Saturday marks the 20th meeting between the two schools, but just the ninth as CAA opponents. UNCW owns an 11-8 advantage in the series and has swept six of the last eight battles between the two teams since Elon joined the CAA in the 2014-15 season.

WHAT'S LEFT: Including Saturday's game, the Seahawks have 10 contests remaining in the regular season, evenly split between home and road dates. UNCW plays its final three games of the regular campaign on the road at Elon, William & Mary and Charleston.

STATE OF MIND: The Seahawks are playing the seventh of eight games this season against North Carolina opponents. UNCW stands 1-5 against Tar Heel State clubs, with the lone victory coming over rival East Carolina back on Nov. 27.

KAI ON THE RISE: With 160 helpers, Kai Toews has risen to eighth place on the single season assist list.

ON THE DOUBLE: The Seahawks have racked up 20 double doubles this season - 15 by Cacok, four by Toews and one by redshirt junior forward Jeantal Cylla. UNCW has recorded a double double in 16-of-21 games in 2018-19.
