Swimming and Diving Posts Impressive Sweep

DAVIDSON, N.C. – UNCW combined to win 23-of-32 events on the afternoon as the Seahawks swept host Davidson (Men, 194-94 | Women, 161-126) in college swimming and diving action Friday at the Charles A. Cannon Pool.

The Seahawks women posted their third consecutive win to improve to 3-5 while the men are now 3-2. Davidson slipped to 2-4 on the men's side and 3-5 on the women's.

"Today was a great test of our mental capabilities against a really tough Davidson team," said fifth-year head coach Jason Memont. "We got off to a slow start in the first few events, but everyone really came together despite being tired to fight until the end. We are starting to wind down hard training and really focus on sharpening everything for the end of the season. I'm excited by all the hard work everyone has put in and can't wait to see how it all pays off at the Colonial Athletic Association championships next month."

Heading up the impressive sweep for the Seahawks was sophomore Josh Rigsbee on the men's side with three event wins and a win on the 400 Medley Relay. Rigsbee won the 200 Breaststroke and IM events and tied sophomore teammate Gianmichael D'Alessandro for first in the 100 Breaststroke.

Adding multiple event wins for the Seahawks were Kyra Schemmel (200, 500 Free), Meagan Johnson (100, 200 Breaststroke), Faith Pilcher (50, 100 Free), Connor Forsythe (100, 200 Fly) and Jack Cosgrove (100, 200 Free). Pilcher and Cosgrove also swan the leadoff legs of their winning 200 Free Relays in the meet finales.

Nicole Costello and Dillon Hall both swept the 1 and 3-meter boards.

"Next week we get to spend time celebrating an amazing senior class of student-athletes who have contributed so much to the growth of Seahawk Swimming and Diving."

The Seahawks host Gardner-Webb on Jan. 19 in the home finale and Senior Day. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
