UNCW Jumps Three Spots At Regional

5/15/2018 10:05:00 PM

BRYAN, Texas – Propelled by a one-under-par round from sophomore Blake McShea, UNCW rose three spots in the standings and into ninth place after 36 holes at the NCAA Bryan Regional on Tuesday at The Traditions Club.

The Seahawks close out the regional on Wednesday and are paired with Kentucky and Northern Colorado. The trio will tee off at 8:25 a.m. CST on hole #1.

"It was a great team effort today to produce a very solid round," said UNCW interim head coach Daniel Bowden. "We have come from behind before and a few great rounds and a few solid ones tomorrow will give us a chance to head to the National Championship."

McShea opened this second round at one-under on the first nine and reached two under after a birdie on the opening hole of the second nine. On 12, though, he bogeyed and finished the round one-under.

Eldridge, meanwhile, continued his steady play with a birdie on the first nine. But he carded a pair of bogeys in the final four holes to finish one over.

Aggie teammates Chandler Phillips and Brandon Smith carded identical four-under-par scorecards for the second consecutive round and share a one-stroke lead over four other golfers.

Host Texas A&M continues to hold the lead after 36 holes, but Clemson moved to within a shot following a pair of strong rounds from Turk Pettit (65) and Doc Redman (67). A&M had three players card four-under-par rounds with Andrew Paysse joining Phillips and Smith in the top-10, tying for eighth.
