WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's tennis team made it six wins in a row and 12 of its last 13 by clipping state rival Charlotte, 5-2, on Friday at the UNCW courts.
 
The Seahawks pushed their record to 12-2 this spring and a perfect 9-0 at home with the convincing win. The 49ers fell to 9-11.
 
UNCW claimed the doubles point for the eight consecutive match after the No. 2 and No. 3 tandems picked up victories for the Seahawks. The No. 3 team of Agustin Savarino and Michael Copeland raced past Collin Thomson and Oriol Puig Forne, 6-1, before Michael Morphy and Andres Torres secured the early point with a 6-3 verdict over Charlotte's Benjamin Wayand and Siem Fenne.
 
The Seahawks continued that momentum in singles, claiming four wins, including the last three matches in the lineup.
 
Copeland upped the margin to 2-0 by downing Forne in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4 singles and sophomore Ignasi de Rueda gave the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage after cruising past Wayand, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 2 slot.
 
Morphy then clinched the match for the second time this season with a 6-2, 6-3, triumph against Fenne at No. 5 singles.
 
The Seahawks close out a five-match home stand on Sunday (March 25) when East Tennessee State visits for a 2 p.m. match.
