The Seahawk men closed out the opening day in second place behind leader Drexel. On the women's side, UNCW is tied for fifth with Delaware while defending champion William & Mary leads the pack.

"Tonight was a great way for us to start the week," said UNCW Head Coach Jason Memont. "Our relays were sharp with good execution on exchanges and details. A few of us were overexcited so their strategy suffered a bit, but we look fast. I was excited to see our men get on the podium in the 800 free relay. That is becoming a good event for us after a few years of struggling. Our men did a great job with diving tonight and it was fun to watch them both compete at finals. We can't wait to get to the pool tomorrow morning and have more fast swims."

In the 800 Free Relay, the relay of Jack Cosgrove, Brandon Cu, Brad Allison and Mack Nesbit shaved nearly 12 seconds off their season-best time and finished third (6:39.44).

Freshman Seth O'Dea finished fourth in the 1-meter finals and fellow newcomer Trent Igoe was fifth. O'Dea advanced to the finals with a career-high score of 260.95 points in the preliminaries earlier in the day.

The women's 200 Medley relay of Shannon Howell, Meagan Johnson, Caitlin Cockcroft and Evan Arsenault clocked in with a fifth-place time of 1:42.83.
The meet continues on Thursday with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the women's 3-meter board prelims at 12:30 p.m. and the day's finals session at 6 p.m.
