Seahawks Add Assistant X-C/T&F Coach

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Former Elon and LSU assistant coach Brooks LeCompte has been named assistant cross country/track & field coach at UNCW.

LeCompte most recently served as an assistant coach for Coach Kevin Jermyn's cross country squad at Elon in 2017-18, directing the middle and long distance athletes for the Phoenix as well as assisting the staff with daily operations and recruiting efforts.

"I'm humbled and honored for the opportunity to join the great staff at UNCW," said LeCompte. "I'd like to thank the administration and Coach (Austin) Davis for believing in me and my vision for the distance program.

"I also want to thank my mentors, Khadevis Robinson and Kevin Jermyn, for their guidance and wisdom. They have provided the cornerstone to my development as a coach and leader. Our family is blessed to be relocating to Wilmington and we're excited and eager to get started."

Before joining the Elon staff, LeCompte worked as a volunteer assistant cross country/track coach for two-time U.S. Olympian Khadevis Robinson at LSU. In his only year with the Tigers, LeCompte played a key role as Robinson piloted the Tigers to a number of school records and several spots on the program's top-10 all-time performance lists.

The Louisiana native helped the LSU's women's indoor distance medley relay team post a school-record time of 10:57 in a meet at Notre Dame, which ranked fourth nationally in 2017. The LSU men's DMR also broke the school record, narrowly missing a national birth at 9:31.

In addition, LeCompte guided LSU freshman Ruby Stauber to an All-American performance (5th place) in the Indoor 800 Meters after clocking a 2:03.01. LeCompete also tutored senior Blair Henderson to seventh place nationally and an All-American achievement.

LeCompte was instrumental in coaching Morgan Schuetz to personal records of 2:03 in the 800 Meters and 4:38 in the Mile. Under LeCompte's guidance, Christian Johnson raced to his first All-SEC performance with an eighth place finish in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:07.

"We're very excited to welcome Brooks to our staff," said Davis, who took over as UNCW's head cross country/track and field coach earlier this year. "He will serve as our distance coach and work with our middle distance, distance and cross country student-athletes. He will inject some needed energy into our distance program. He comes highly recommended and we're excited to work with him."
