WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Coach
Chris Neal's message to the UNCW women's soccer team for Tuesday night's regular season finale against Elon is simple: win and you're in.
The Seahawks can secure the final berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship field with a win over the Phoenix in the league's final regular season game at UNCW Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. A loss or a tie will end the Seahawks' season.
UNCW, 9-6-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the CAA, is coming off an exciting 4-3 overtime victory against Towson on Sunday afternoon. Elon, meanwhile, is 3-10-3 overall and 1-7-0 in league play after a 2-0 setback at Drexel.
Five Things to Know
- Sophomore forward Molly McGarry, who scored a goal with two assists in Sunday's win over Towson, is tied for second in the league with six helpers.
- Neal was Elon's bench boss from 2008-17, guiding the Phoenix to a 90-76-31 record and six winning seasons.
- UNCW and Elon are on opposite ends of the CAA scoring rankings. While the Seahawks are second in the circuit with 30 goals in 15 games, the Phoenix holds ninth place with 15 goals in 16 contests.
- Elon has lost its last five games and has been outscored by a 14-4 margin in those contests.
- UNCW is 12-0-1 all-time against Elon, but had a 12-game series win streak snapped last year with a 1-1 tie at Rudd Field.
Up Next: A win over the Phoenix gives UNCW the final spot in the CAA Championship field and would put the Seahawks into a quarterfinal matchup against third-seeded Hofstra on Friday, Oct. 26, at Northeastern's Parsons Field.
