WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team collides with a familiar opponent early Sunday when the Seahawks travel to Newark, Del., for a 2 p.m. Colonial Athletic Association men's hoops matinee with Delaware's Blue Hens.

The Seahawks, 4-11 overall and 1-2 in the CAA, are coming off an 89-71 loss at Towson on Friday. Coach C.B. McGrath's club is in the middle of an early-season three-game road swing after starting the CAA campaign with a 58-56 loss to Delaware on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Trask Coliseum.

Live Seahawk Digital Network (SDN) coverage of the UNCW-UD contest begins at 1:45 p.m. with Mike Vaccaro, the "Voice of the Seahawks," calling the action. Visit UNCWsports.com/SDN for live audio coverage. In addition, a radio broadcast of the game may be heard on "The Ticket" 95.9 FM and WKXB (99.9 FM-HD3).

"We just have to compete on the defensive end like we did the last time," said McGrath. "It was a defensive struggle. Neither team made a lot of shots. It should be fresh in our minds…their personnel and system will be very familiar. We have to win the rebounding battle, compete on the defensive end, and keep them off the line."

With three conference games in the books, UNCW and Delaware are tied for sixth in the CAA standings with identical 1-2 records. William & Mary is the lone unbeaten in the circuit at 3-0. The Seahawks have reached the midway point of the season and have 15 games remaining, eight games on the road and seven at home.

The Seahawks journey to Newark to lock horns with the Blue Hens once again after kicking off the CAA slate against Martin Ingelsby's club just nine days ago in Wilmington. It's the middle game of a challenging three-game road trip for the Seahawks as McGrath's club opens defense of its three straight regular season titles.

In Friday's loss at Towson, senior point guard Jordon Talley became the 24th member of UNCW's 1,000-point club when he scored 14 points, raising his career total to 1,009 points. He needs just 10 markers to move past Chris Meighen into No. 23 on the elite list.

Junior forward and CAA Player-of-the-Year candidate Devontae Cacok contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season and 24th of his career. The Riverdale, Ga., performer ranks sixth in the CAA in scoring (17.9), leads the league in field goal percentage (.635) and leads the CAA and nation in rebounding (13.1 rpg).

The Seahawks are still searching for their first victory away from Wilmington. In nine games away from home - true road games and neutral site contests - UNCW has dropped contests by an average of 15.1 ppg. UNCW (0-9) is the lone team in the CAA without a victory in road/neutral games this season.

The Blue Hens, led by sophomore standout guard Ryan Daly, bring an 8-8 record into Sunday's tilt after being clipped by William & Mary, 90-65, on Friday night at the Bob. The surging Tribe shot a torrid 59.6 percent from the field and connected on 11-of-23 three-pointers in a long distance barrage against the Blue Hens.

The Seahawks are facing Daly for the fourth time. The versatile guard has averaged 21.3 points and shot 46.9 percent against the Seahawks in four matchups. The Seahawks did limit Daly to 13 points in the first matchup, but the Ardmore, Pa., product converted a big three-point play with 50 seconds remaining to key UD's road win.

In the win at Trask Coliseum, freshman guard Ryan Allen drained four critical three-pointers in the second half to help Delaware snap a four-game losing streak to the Seahawks.

The Seahawks have faced Delaware more than any other former America East member since UD, Hofstra, Towson and Drexel joined the league 17 years ago. UNCW owns a 22-12 advantage in the series and owns five CAA Tournament victories (2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2017) over the Blue Hens.

Sunday's game features three of the top-8 scorers in the CAA in Cacok (6th-17.9), Daly (7th-17.0) and Talley (8th-16.2).

In last year's Newark installment of the 34-game series on Jan. 7, 2017, C.J. Bryce erupted for a career-high 27 points to lead all five starters in double figures as UNCW remained unbeaten in the CAA with a 91-81 victory. UNCW built an early 19-point lead until the Blue Hens fought back to tie the game before falling in Martin Ingelsby's first matchup with the Seahawks. Denzel Ingram chipped in 23 points and eight assists for UNCW, while Daly had 28 in his debut vs. UNCW.

Following Sunday's matchup with the Blue Hens, UNCW concludes its three-game road swing on Thursday with a 7 p.m. clash against Elon at Alumni Gym in Elon, N.C. It will mark UNCW's final appearance in the venue before the Phoenix begin play in the new Schar Center next season.
