The Seahawks begin their quest at the program's first CAA title on Wednesday afternoon when they take on College of Charleston in a first round contest at the JMU Convocation Center at 2:30 p.m.
UNCW, which earned the No. 7 seed, enters the postseason with a 10-19 record, including a 5-13 mark in the CAA. However, the Seahawks dropped seven of their final nine games to close out the regular season following an 82-48 setback against Elon last Wednesday.
Junior guard
Madison Raque begins the CAA Championship as the Seahawks' leading scorer with an 11.1 average while connecting on 56-of-168 three-point field goals. Redshirt senior guard
Jasmine Steele, who has posted eight double-digit scoring efforts in the last 11 games, has moved into second on the team with an 8.9 scoring mark.
College of Charleston, the No. 10 seed, carries a four-game losing streak into the CAA Tournament following a 74-60 loss against James Madison in last Wednesday's regular season finale. The Cougars are 9-20 overall this season with a 6-12 mark in league play. However, they had two wins reversed by the CAA for seeding purposes, lowering them to the No. 10 seed.
Senior guard
Breanna Bolden leads the Cougars into the postseason, averaging 18.0 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The second-leading scorer in the CAA, she also holds the CAA lead with 97 steals. Redshirt junior forward
Tanisha Brown is contributing 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.
The Seahawks and the Cougars split a pair of contests during the regular season. After Charleston defeated UNCW on Jan. 8 at TD Arena, the Seahawks responded by posting a 67-61 victory over the Cougars on Jan. 29 inside Trask Coliseum.
The winner of Wednesday's game advances to the quarterfinals on Thursday against second-seeded James Madison at 5 p.m.
