Whitty, Arsenault Lead UNCW In Loss To Vols

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW received strong performances from both Ben Whitty on the men's side and Evan Arsenault on the women's, but Tennessee prevailed with a sweep of the season-opening meets for both teams on Friday at the Seahawk Natatorium.

Whitty paced the Seahawks with a pair of wins in the 100 Breaststroke (57.99) and 200 IM (1:54.29) and helped the Seahawks to a meet-opening win in the 200 Medley Relay (1:33.16). Joining him on that relay were Josh Rigsbee, Noah Cahan and Sean Cannon.

Connor Forsythe added a win for UNCW in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:52.26.
Arsenault, a freshman, posted wins in her collegiate debut in the 50 and 100 Freestyles. She swam 23.78 in the 50 and went 52.22 in the 100.

Fellow freshman Faith Pilcher finished second in both races with times of 24.24 and 52.45, respectively.

Tennessee, which placed in the top-20 at the NCAA Championships last season, won 25 events on the afternoon, including a sweep of the diving events. Rachel Rubadue led that charge winning both the 1 and 3-meter boards.

Alexis Yager (200 IM / 200 BR) and Erica Brown (100 Fly / 100 Back) were the lone multi-event winners for the Vols in swimming.

UNCW hosts Old Dominion on Oct. 14 at 11 a.m., when they return to the pool.
