UNCW Swimming Sweeps Catawba


SALISBURY, North Carolina – UNCW combined to win 23 events as the Seahawks swept host Catawba in a swimming meet on Friday afternoon at Johnson Pool.

The Seahawks improved to 2-1 on both the men's and women's sides. For Catawba, it was the dual meet opener for both programs.

Freshman sprinter Faith Pilcher earned wins in the 100 and 200 Free events with times of 53.04 seconds and 1:57.57, respectively. She also swam legs on UNCW winning 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays.

Kyra Schemmel, a junior, added wins in the 200 Butterfly (2:09.98) and 200 Backstroke (2:12.76).

Sophomore Jack Cosgrove posted a win in the 100 Backstroke (53.35) and helped the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays to wins.

Junior Meagan Johnson touched the wall in a time of 2:28.40 to win the 200 Breaststroke and later clocked in at 5:18.26 in winning the 500 Free.

The Seahawk women next compete at UNC Asheville on Oct. 21 at 10 a.m.
