Seahawks Close Furman Invite With Strong Effort

Final Results and Stats (PDF)
GREENVILLE, South Carolina – Junior Alaina Yeatts carded a season-best round of 2-under par as UNCW moved into a tie for 13th place during the final round of the Furman Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who shot a season-low 296 in the final round, moved up three spots to finish in a tie with Maryland with a three-round score of 900. Texas held off host Furman to win the team title after posting a three-round score of 853.

"I am very pleased with how the team played today," Coach Cindy Ho said. "We got off to a better start and had an excellent round going into holes 9 through 12 with two players being under par.

"It was a tough finish after losing a few shots at the end, but I was very proud of the way we competed and moved up the leaderboard against some very good teams," Ho continued. "Alaina had a great round today as she struck the ball very well and made some key birdies and putts."

Yeatts, who finished in a tie for 46th place, tallied five birdies during the final round, including a birdie on the 9th and 10th holes.

Junior Lyberty Anderson earned a share of 36th place after ending the tournament with a 2-over par round, giving her a 221 tournament score. Junior Kayla Thompson and freshman My Nguyen each claimed a tie for 64th place after finishing at 14-over par.

Sophomore Ellinoora Moisio rounded out the Seahawks' effort by finishing in a tie for 74th place at 16-over par.

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW will be idle until Oct. 14-16 when the Seahawks compete at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational.
