The Seahawks, who are 6-2-1 on the season, split their two contests last weekend at UNCW Soccer Stadium. After falling to George Mason by a 2-1 margin in double overtime, UNCW posted a 2-0 victory over North Dakota State on Sunday.
Junior forward
Serenity Waters is the Seahawks' leading scorer with five goals and six assists. She was involved in both UNCW goals in Sunday's win, scoring on a penalty kick in the 24th minute before adding an assist on senior
Callie McClain's second half goal.
College of Charleston enters its conference opener with a 7-3-0 record and an impressive seven-game win streak. The Cougars have allowed just one goal over the last seven contests while scoring three or more goals four times.
Sophomore forwards
Laura Ortega and
Jessica Schifer have combined to score nine goals with five assists this season. Ortega paces the Cougars with 12 points, including a team-high four assists, while Schifer has notched a team-leading five goals and ranks second on the squad with 11 points. Â
UNCW leads the all-time series against the Cougars by an 8-3-1 margin following last year's 4-0 triumph in the regular season finale in Wilmington.
Following Sunday's league opener, the Seahawks return home next weekend to entertain Northeastern and Hofstra as part of Alumni Weekend.
