William & Mary Invitational First/Second Round Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – Led by junior
Lyberty Anderson, UNCW opened its 2016-17 season by claiming fifth place through the first two rounds of the William & Mary Invitational at the Kingsmill Resort on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who finished the day with a +38 team score, are 15 strokes behind tournament leader Richmond, which posted a 599 team score to take the lead. Seton Hall is four strokes behind the Spiders in second place while Georgetown is in third place with a +28 team score.
"We started the first round very well through the first nine holes, but struggled on the back nine," Coach
Cindy Ho said. "We were still in good position being one seven shots behind the leader after the first round, but needed to play solid in the afternoon.
"Throughout the afternoon, we had some chances to score but couldn't capitalize on them," Ho continued. "Lyberty played very well from tee to green and posted an excellent round to help us stay closer. Considering this is her first competitive round since February, she played extremely well and is in a great position in the individual race."
Anderson, who joined the Seahawks after two seasons at Virginia, shot a 4-over par to take third place after the first two rounds. She carded a 4-over par score in her opening round before shooting even par in the second round.
Freshman
My Nguyen is tied for 19th place after shooting a 154 (+10) in the opening day of the tournament. She fired a 3-over par score of 75 to begin the tournament before posting a score of 79 to finish the day.

Alaina Yeatts followed in a tie for 37th place after opening the tournament with a 158 score.
Junior
Kayla Thompson claimed a share of 45th place with a two-round total of 160 (+16).
"It will take a team effort tomorrow to make a move up the leader board," Coach Ho said. "We have the ability on the team to come back and finish strong." Â
