RICHMOND, Virginia – UNCW junior
Peyton Jordan has been named as the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Mar. 20, it has been announced by CAA officials.
It is the first time Jordan has been honored as the CAA's Pitcher of the Week in her career. She is also the first UNCW player to earn the league's Pitcher of the Week award since
Casey Rowland received the distinction on Feb. 12, 2013.
In leading the Seahawks to a perfect 5-0 record last week, the Waxhaw, N.C., native posted a 0.00 earned run average with a 4-0 mark while pitching 21.0 innings. She scattered just 11 hits in four appearances with one walk and 14 strikeouts.
After throwing a complete game shutout in the Seahawks' 2-0 win over Bryant on Wednesday, Jordan earned the win in relief during the series opener against Columbia as the Seahawks rallied for a 4-2 victory in eight innings. She did not allow a hit in the final two innings while recording three strikeouts.
Jordan also claimed the win in both of the Seahawks' victories over Columbia in a doubleheader on Friday, combining for 12.0 scoreless innings. She threw 5.0 innings in the team's 6-1 triumph over the Lions in the series opener before throwing the final 7.0 innings in relief during UNCW's 15-inning win in the nightcap.
Jordan, who ranks seventh in the CAA with a 1.98 earned run average, is one of three pitchers in the CAA with at least 10 wins this season.
UNCW, which is off to a 19-9 start, completes an 11-game homestand this weekend by welcoming No. 9 James Madison to Boseman Field for a three-game CAA series. The Seahawks and the Dukes are slated to play a doubleheader on Friday before wrapping up the series with a single game on Saturday.
