Boseman Leads Seahawks At CAA X-C Championships

CAA Men's Results | CAA Women's Results

NEWARK, Del. –
Junior Alex Boseman earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors for the second straight season to highlight UNCW's finishes in the 2016 CAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at White Clay Creek State Park.

The Raleigh, N.C., product anchored the Seahawk men's team as its finished fifth out of six schools in the team standings. The UNCW women came in ninth overall.

Boseman clocked a 25:52 time to top UNCW's contingent in the 8K race. Junior Sarah Hamon posted a time of 23:44 over the 6K layout for the Seahawk women, who were competing for the second straight race without Karli Smiraglia, who was sidelined with an injury.

"Alex and Calvin (Daughtry) both ran well for us today," said Layne Schwier, UNCW's cross country coach. "We faltered some in the middle of the lineup. Having two strong runners was enough to allow us to get past Hofstra this year.

"There's no sugar coating it, our women just got outraced today. Most of our runners ran better than we did three weeks ago here, but it just wasn't enough to be competitive. We'll take this experience, learn from it and work hard to continue to dig out of the bottom. It stings, but we'll get better."

The teams conclude their season in two weeks when they compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
