"Today was full of great racing," said third-year Head Coach Jason Memont. "Our team came out, executed the plan and did a great job with the details we have spent a lot of time working on. For our first meet of the season I was very impressed with the poise of our team, especially the freshmen. They made an immediate impact and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow. I was very proud of the effort and team excitement we showed today. It's great to start the season with two wins."

Freshmen Noah Cahan and Sean Cannon posted multiple wins for the Seahawks with Cahan winning the 200 Butterfly and Cannon taking first in the 50 Free. Both swam legs on the winning 200 Medley Relay. Joining Cahan and Cannon on that relay were Tad Spence and Will Ryan. Spence and Ryan also contributed wins in the 100 Backstroke and 200 Breaststroke, respectively.

George Vlahos picked a win for the Seahawks in the 1,000 Freestyle while the freshman contingent of John Cosgrove (200 Free), Cole Peterson (200 Back) Graham Coope (500 Free) and Connor Forsythe (100 Fly) all earned wins in their collegiate debuts.

The UNCW women's relay of Alicia Cheripka, Kathryn Ostrom, Vivian Louviere and Meghan Lahr combined to win the 200 Medley to give UNCW an early lead. Lahr added a win over her own later in the meet when she took first in the 50 Free.

In the women's 200 Freestyle, Marissa Martinez picked up a close win, edging her opponent by 0.22 of a second. Martinez also earned a win in the 100 Free.

Rounding out UNCW's winners on the women's side were Meagan Johnson (200 Fly) and Kyra Schemmel (500 Free).

UNCW gained valuable points in the diving portion of the meet as newcomer Adyson Lowe won both the women's 1 and 3-meter boards and Nathan Lane added a win in the men's 1-meter.

The Seahawk diving programs return action this weekend with the women competing against Clemson on Oct. 21 and then both the men and women's teams competing at East Carolina on Oct. 22.
