Swimming & Diving Preview: at Old Dominion


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – One week after Hurricane Matthew canceled UNCW's season-opener with Tennessee, the Seahawks will now kick off their season with a dual meet against former Colonial Athletic Association rival Old Dominion on Saturday in Norfolk.

While UNCW may be a young team this season with a combined 17 freshmen on the rosters, both teams do return swimmers who excelled last season and look to carry that momentum into the new season.

On the men's side, four seniors will head up the Seahawks. Will Ryan earned All-CAA honors in three individual events, including a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes. Tad Spence added All-CAA honors in the 100 Backstroke. Rounding out the senior class are Alex Rayle and Alex Sabau. Rayle turned in several strong in the Breaststroke consolations races, winning the 100 and finished third in the 200. Sabau, meanwhile, finished the season with strong times in the distance events.

The women's roster features four seniors also with Amanda Didawick, Kelsey Moore, Casey Murdoch and Kathyrn Ostrum concluding their careers with UNCW. Didawick competed at the CAA Championships in the 100 and 200 Butterflies and the 100 Backstroke. Moore, Murdoch and Ostrum missed the postseason with injuries.

On the board, junior Allen Crosby returns after earning All-CAA honors in both the 1 and 3-meter dives.
Following ODU, the Seahawks will compete against Clemson in women's diving on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m.
