HARRISONBURG, Virginia – After battling to a two-point victory over Towson on Friday night, the UNCW women's basketball team makes its final road trip in the month of January by traveling to James Madison for a Sunday afternoon Colonial Athletic Association contest against the defending league champion Dukes.

Now 6-13 on the season, UNCW improved to 2-6 in the CAA after edging the Tigers by a 53-51 count on Friday night. Senior guard
Shatia Cole and junior guard
Jasmine Steele combined to score 36 of the team's 53 points. While Cole tallied a team-high 19 points, Steele contributed 17 points, including the game-winning jumper with 18 seconds remaining.

Cole, who has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, is the Seahawks' leading scorer with a 12.3 point per game average. She has also contributed a team-high 27 steals while ranking second with 44 assists.

Meanwhile, Steele has posted a double-digit scoring effort in five of the last eight contests, upping her season scoring average to 7.6 points per game. She paces the Seahawks with 51 assists in 19 games after posting five assists against Towson.

The defending CAA champion Dukes carry a six-game win streak into Sunday's contest after dispatching Delaware, 75-55, on Friday night at home. James Madison, which is 13-5 overall this season, is currently in first place in the CAA standings with a 6-1 league mark.

Jazmon Gwathmey led the Dukes in Friday night's win by scoring 23 points for her sixth straight 20-point outing. Meanwhile, senior guard
Angela Mickens posted a double-double with 12 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.

Gwathmey, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, leads the Dukes by averaging 20.6 points per game while contributing 5.4 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, Mickens paces the Dukes with 131 assists and 32 steals in 18 games.

James Madison leads the all-time series against UNCW by a commanding 56-9 margin and has won the last 10 games in the series. The Dukes claimed a 74-57 victory over the Seahawks in Harrisonburg before earning an 85-49 triumph at Trask Coliseum.

Following Sunday's game, the Seahawks open their February schedule with three consecutive games starting with a clash against Drexel on Friday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m.
