HARRISONBURG, Virginia – Coming off a thrilling victory over William & Mary on Sunday, the Seahawks will play their first Colonial Athletic Association road game of the 2014-15 season on Tuesday night when they visit defending CAA champion James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Seahawks and the Dukes will play at 7:00 p.m. inside the JMU Convocation Center.      Â
LAST TIME OUT FOR UNCW: Sophomore forward Ryan Flowers scored the game-winning lay-up with 1.9 seconds remaining as the Seahawks overcame a seven-point half-time deficit en route to earning a 63-62 victory over William & Mary in the CAA opener for both teams on Sunday at Trask Coliseum. Flowers, who posted her fourth "double double" of the season, finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds as UNCW earned its fifth home victory of the season. Senior guard Kelva Atkins scored a game-high 14 points while setting a career high with eight assists. Â
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON: The defending CAA champion Dukes will bring a 10-2 overall record into Tuesday night's game against UNCW after rallying to defeat Towson by a 67-66 margin on Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center. James Madison, which earned its 16th consecutive home victory, overcame a 13-point deficit against the Tigers to win its CAA opener as senior center Lauren Okafor scored 14 points with eight rebounds. The Dukes are led by junior guard Precious Hall, who is the CAA's leading scorer with a 22.6 average.
SERIES BUSINESS: Tuesday night's game between the Seahawks and the Dukes will mark the 64th all-time meeting in a series JMU has dominated by winning 54 of the previous 63 contests. After defeating UNCW in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament last year, the Dukes have won eight straight games in the series and have a five-game home win streak in the series.
HISTORY LESSON: A 33-point performance by Kelva Atkins was not enough as the Seahawks dropped a 69-56 decision against the Dukes in the quarterfinals of last year's CAA Tournament at Show Place Arena. Precious Hall led James Madison with 18 points and five rebounds.
SUMMIT MEETING: Tuesday's game will feature the top two rebounding teams in the Colonial Athletic Association this season. James Madison leads the CAA by averaging 45.8 rebounds per game while UNCW ranks second in the conference with a 42.5 rebound per game average. James Madison (17.6) and UNCW (15.9) also rank first and second in the CAA in offensive rebounds per game.
VIEW FROM THE TOP: When the Seahawks and the Dukes get together on Tuesday night, the game will feature the top three active career scorers in the Colonial Athletic Association. UNCW senior guard Kelva Atkins ranks second on the active career scoring list with 1,058 points while James Madison junior guard Precious Hall ranks first on the list with 1,092 points. Senior forward Toia Giggetts of James Madison is third on the scoring ledger with 999 points.
