Engen Wins Both Breaststrokes Against Duke

DURHAM, North Carolina – Jenson Egen won both Breaststroke events and newcomer Alex Sabau won the men's 1000 yard freestyle, but UNCW was swept by Duke on Saturday at the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion.

The Seahawk men (2-2) saw their brief two-meet winning streak halted while the women dropped to 0-5. Duke won the men's meet, 165-128, and the women's 187-108.

"I thought the team competed hard and I was especially proud of the energy on the sidelines while cheering," said UNCW Head Coach Jason Memont. "We are showing a lot of improvements and many of the swimmers are beginning to make the necessary changes that will result in excellent performances during the later parts of the season."

Engen posted time of 1:04.62 and 2:19.58 in the 100 and 200, respectively.

Sabau, who is in his first season with the Seahawks, won the 1,000 Free with a time of 9:47.11.

Adding wins for the Seahawks in the men's meet were Adam Salzman (100 Free) and Valtteri Halonen (200 Backstroke).

Nathan Lane took second in the 1 and 3-meter dives for the Seahawks.

UNCW hosts James Madison, Delaware and William & Mary Saturday-Sunday in a CAA Pod meet. The meet begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
