WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Junior Rafael Aita is ranked in singles and the senior tandem of Chris Cooprider and Kosta Blank picked up a ranking in doubles when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its preseason rankings this week.
Aita, a 6-0, 162-pound junior from Lima, Peru, is ranked No. 55 among NCAA Division I players. He closed out the 2011-12 season with a 17-4 record and No. 99 ranking.
Cooprider and Blank, meanwhile, fashioned an 18-5 mark last spring and are ranked No. 57 by the ITA in doubles. Cooprider hails from Denver, Colo, and Blank resides in Winnipeg, Canada.
"I'm very pleased that the ITA and my fellow coaches have selected three of our players to be ranked among the nation's best," said sixth-year Head Coach Mait DuBois. "Rafael, Chris and Kosta have been working hard and are very deserving of this recognition.
"We pride ourselves on our team depth and to have half of our top six nationally ranked is something very few programs in the country can say. All three of these players have the talent and work ethic to climb up the rankings, and I couldn't be more excited about this year."
The team returns to action Sept. 21-23 when they participate in the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C.
