Bosley's One-Hitter Draws Split With Campbell

UNC WILMINGTON 1-2, CAMPBELL 2-1

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Senior pitcher Jennifer Bosley tossed a one-hitter while striking out a career-high nine as UNC Wilmington won the nitecap of doubleheader against Campbell, 2-1, at Eakes Complex Wednesday in college softball action. The Fighting Camels won game one, 2-1.

With the split, the Seahawks moved to 2-1 on the young season, while Campbell evened its mark to 2-2.

Freshman designated player Ali Gardiner and junior first baseman Krista Searle went a combined 6-for-10, driving in all three Seahawk runs for the day to lead UNCW offensively.

During the nitecap, UNCW got on the board in the fourth inning when a single by Krista Searle drove in sophomore third baseman Jessica Sanders from third. Gardiner then doubled down the right field line, sending home Searle, and giving the Seahawks a 2-0 advantage.

The Fighting Camels' lone hit would come in the bottom of fourth when senior leftfielder Holly Harris sent a solo shot over the left field fence.

Bosley improved to 2-0 with the win, while Cambell starter junior Kelly Weaver dipped to 0-2, throwing three innings in the loss.

In game one, Campbell sophomore Lauren Caviness scattered four hits over seven innings, giving up just one run to improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Fighting Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second when senior first baseman Corri Long's two-out double drove in freshman designated player Krysten Vlacancich. UNCW tied the game in the third when Gardiner drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring freshman centerfielder Caitlin Andrus.

However, Campbell would capitalize on a mistake-filled sixth inning. After Megan Paul reached on a fielder's choice, a pair of wild pitches from Seahawk starter junior Jess Luckett advanced her to third. Senior leftfielder Erica Willis was awarded first base after being hit by a pitch. Paul would then score on sophomore catcher Lindsay Styons' throwing error as Willis attempted to steal second to seal the win for Campbell.

Luckett fell to 0-1 in her first action of the season, surrendering two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out four.
